Sir.

I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your letter

of the 5th instant and thank you for the information it con-

tains that the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury are agree-

able that the Hongkong Office of this Bank should be permitted

further to increase its issue of one-dollar notes up to a

limit of 2,000,000.

I note that the remission of the tax of one per cent,

which was waived for the period of the war, is not to be con-

tinued after the end of the war.
